Ashtami (Eighth) Navratri Maa Maha Gauri
-Rohit Kumar Parmar
On the eighth day of Navratri, devotees worship Maha Gauri form of Goddess Durga. She is an avatar of Devi Parvati, the divine consort of Lord Shiva. Unlike Kalaratri, who is ferocious, Maha Gauri is calm and compassionate, symbolizes intelligence and peace. She is depicted in white clothes and mounted on a bull, lion or tiger. Anyone who worships Maha Gauri gets relief from all sufferings in life.
It is believed that when Kalaratri took a bath in river Ganga, she became extremely fair from her darker complexion. The colour associated with Ashtami is Peacock Green which depicts optimism.
Maha Gauri has four hands, and her upper right arm is in the form of a blessing while right lower hand holds a trident. In her left upper arm, she holds a damaru (tambourine) and the lower one is in the pose of allaying fear.
