Second Day of Chaitra Navratri (10.04.2024)
dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini
-Rohit Kumar Parmar [1]
The second day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Brahmacharini.
Brahmacharini is derived from Brahma (ब्रह्म), and charya (चर्य), which means `to follow Brahma’. Goddess Brahmacharini is the unmarried form of Goddess Parvati. She lived an austere life and performed prayers, due to which she was called Brahmacharini. Goddess Brahmacharini walked bare feet, carrying a Jap Mala in the right hand and Kamandal in the left hand. She is also called Aparna and Uma.
Goddess Brahmacharini is a symbol of love, loyalty, wisdom, and knowledge.
Goddess Parvati took birth at the home of Daksha Prajapati. She did severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband by spending over a thousand years on a diet of flowers/fruits and another hundred years on leafy vegetables, while sleeping on the floor. Jasmine is believed to be the favourite flower of Goddess Brahmacharini.
Bhog (offering to god) to Maa Brahmacharini is Makhana Kheer (Pudding of fox nut and milk). Maa Brahmacharini likes milk products.
