Second day of Navratri

- Rohit Kumar Parmar

Second day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Brahmacharini.

Brahmacharini is derived from Brahma (ब्रह्म), and charya (चर्य), which means to follow. Goddess Brahmacharini is the unmarried form of Goddess Parvati. She performed hard austerity due to which she was called Brahmacharini, Aparna and Uma. Goddess Brahmacharini walking bare feet, carrying Jap Mala in the right hand and Kamandal in the left hand.

Goddess Bhramacharini is known as the symbol of love, loyalty, wisdom, and knowledge.

After the Kushmand form, Goddess Parvati took birth at the home of Daksha Prajapati. She did severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband by spending over a thousand years on a diet of flowers/ fruits and another hundred years on leafy vegetables while sleeping on the floor. Jasmine is believed to be the favourite flower of Goddess Brahmacharini.
