The sixth day of Shardiya/ Ashwin Navratri 2021 is dedicated to Maa Kātyāyanī, a form of Parvati, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati. Born to sage Kātyāyana, Maa Kātyāyanī, an incarnation of Durga exhibits courage and is considered one of the most violent forms of Durga.

Maa Kātyāyanī’s complexion is bright and phosphorous like gold. In this avatar, Maa Kātyāyanī rides a lion and has four hands with a lotus and a sword in her left hand and a swastika and Abhaya Mudra (blessing posture) in her right hand.

On the sixth day of Durga Puja, the Kalash and Goddess Kātyāyanī are worshiped with recitation of the mantra of Goddess. By worshiping her, devotees attain Artha, Dharma, Kama and Moksha and also get freedom from disease and all sufferings. According to Devi Bhagwat Purana, by worshiping this form of Goddess, the body becomes radiant and makes household life happy. Worshiping Maa Kātyāyanī also removes problems related to Rahu and Kaal Sarp Dosh.

Durga Shasti has elaborate prayers and celebrations as part of Durga Puja. To get Lord Krishna, the gopis of Vraj [1] worshiped Maa Kātyāyanī on the banks of river Kalindi and she is revered as the presiding deity of Braj Mandal.

Maa Katyayani Ki Aarti
