dedicated to Maa Chandraghanta
-Rohit Kumar Parmar [1]
Tritiya Chaitra Navratri (the third day) commemorates the worship of Maa Chandraghanta, a name derived from the fact that after marrying Shiva, Parvati adorned her forehead with the ardhachandra (half-moon), which is in the shape of a bell, so the name Chandraghanta.
Maa Chandraghanta has 10 hands. She holds a lotus, arrow, bow, japamaala (rosary) in her right hands; and a trishul (Trident), gada (mace), talwar (sword), abd a kamandal, [2] in her left hands. One left and one right hands are in abhaymudra - the blessing posture.
Maa Chandraghanta is golden in complexion and rides a tiger, which is a symbol of bravery. Her third eye is always open, it shows she is always ready to destroy demons.
She is an embodiment of beauty and a symbol of bravery. Maa Chandraghanta is the third incarnation of Goddess Parvati. Maa Chandraghanta is terrible and scary to demons and enemies, but extremely compassionate and loving to devotees.
Maa Chandraghanta story
Devi Sati was the youngest daughter of Daksha and mother Prastuti. Sati got married to Lord Shiva against her parents wishes. On the occasion of a grand yagna organised by her father (Daksha), they reached the venue without an invitation. At the yagna, Daksha insulted her husband Lord Shiva, in front of everyone. Humiliated and hurt, Sati immolated herself in the fire of the yagna. This incident affected Lord Shiva and he got detached from worldly affairs, took mortification, and went for deep meditation in the mountains.

[2] A Kamandal is made of dry gourd (pumpkin) or coconut shell, metal, wood of the Kamandalataru tree, or from clay, usually with a handle and sometimes with a spout. Hindu ascetics or yogis often use it for storing drinking water. The water-filled kamandal, which is invariably carried by ascetics, is representative of a simple and self-contained life.
