DERC the electricity regulator, the customer and the NCT Delhi government have not taken note of the size of the bill, which BRPL the Delhi Electricity Company issues to customers. BRPL bill has two parts; the first part is 29 x 20 cm or 580 sq cm. The second part has only advertisements and is 29 x 27 cm or 783 sq cm, 35 percent more than the main bill.

This bill size needs to be reduced by 90 percent since the cost of the bill is borne by the customer and possibly partly subsidized by the NCT Delhi government. Action not initiated by DERC is now necessitated, for the reason detailed below.

The first part of the bill can easily be pruned to one – fourth, which is the dynamic information and the remaining made available on the web. In any case, most of it is not readable; tel nos provided are either not operational, officials have changed or no one responds. Consumers can be requested to suggest items that can be reduced from the first part of the bill, with a reduction in costs. BRPL, DERC or NCT Delhi government should neither do this exercise nor be associated with it.

The second part of the bill, which is 35 percent more, has items promoting products and the company, for which the customer pays and needs to be discontinued. Another reason why the same needs to be discontinued is that BRPL payment offices have this part of the bill, strewn all over and is a waste of paper and is environmentally unfriendly.

Can DERC direct reduction of the bill size by 90 percent with some consumers. If so when? and how fast?
